In 2003 I participated in a student exchange term at CCAC in Oakland California, specifically for the city’s prominent mixed race population. For the very first time in my life, I had unauthorized access to people based on an unspoken knowing of a shared visible identity. This entryway allowed me to approach, survey and photograph people in the area that identified as either biracial or multiracial. These portraits are a record of these meetings.
