Maya de Forest was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She holds a BFA in Photography from Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design and a BMusic in Performance from McGill University. While photography and books have been central to much of her work, de Forest is currently delving into a multimedia project focused around her late father, his Alzheimer’s and his personal archive and collections. Her photo work has been exhibited in Canada, the U.S., and abroad and published in a variety of independent art publications. Her self published book I love here now, was also distributed and sold internationally.
Outside of her studio, de Forest teaches music to underserved youth and plays with the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra in Winnipeg.
